GCC Medical Licensing
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about GCC medical licensing for UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and all Gulf countries. Updated 2026 guide.
The Basics
General Licensing Questions
A GCC medical license is an official authorization issued by a Gulf country’s health authority allowing you to legally practice healthcare in that country. Without it, you cannot legally work in any licensed healthcare facility β public or private. Each of the 6 GCC nations has its own licensing authority.
Yes. Many healthcare professionals hold multiple GCC licenses. We manage parallel applications across countries efficiently, using your existing documents and credentials across all active applications to save time and cost.
No. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and allied health professionals each have distinct requirements, exam formats, and eligibility criteria. Using generic guidance for the wrong profession is one of the leading causes of application delays and rejections.
Yes, completely free and with no obligation. We assess your eligibility, explain the process, give you a realistic timeline, and provide a full cost estimate before you commit to anything. Contact us here to get started.
Yes. Many of our clients are already based in the UAE or Gulf region and need to upgrade, add, or renew their license. We coordinate all document attestation and DataFlow processes remotely, including UAE MOFA attestation on your behalf.
GCC licenses are not internationally portable, but Gulf experience and licensing is highly valued globally. Licensing demonstrates compliance with internationally recognized healthcare standards β which strengthens any future international application.

Country-Specific FAQs
DHA (Dubai Health Authority) covers Dubai emirate. DOH (Department of Health) covers Abu Dhabi emirate. MOH (Ministry of Health and Prevention) covers the Northern Emirates β Sharjah, RAK, Ajman, Fujairah, and UAQ. All three are completely separate authorities with different portals, requirements, and exams. See our full UAE overview.
UAE MOH is generally the most accessible β it accepts fresh graduates with internship completion and has lower experience requirements than DHA or DOH. It’s the most common first-step UAE licensing route. MOH guide here.
Malafi is Abu Dhabi’s integrated healthcare information system through which all DOH licensing applications are processed. Accurate registration, correct specialty mapping, and precise document upload in Malafi is critical. Errors are a leading cause of DOH application delays. DOH guide here.
SCFHS (Saudi Commission for Health Specialties) is Saudi Arabia’s health professional licensing body. Applications are submitted through the Mumaris+ portal. SCFHS uses a tiered classification system (Resident, Specialist, Consultant) with the Saudi Prometric exam required. Saudi Arabia guide here.
Bahrain (NHRA) and Oman (OMSB) are generally among the fastest GCC licensing processes β typically 3β4 months with complete documents. UAE MOH is the fastest UAE route. Saudi Arabia (SCFHS) typically takes longer due to its more rigorous evaluation process.
There is no direct transfer between DHA (Dubai) and DOH (Abu Dhabi). They are completely separate authorities requiring separate licensing applications. However, your existing DHA license demonstrates professional standing and can support your DOH application. We manage both simultaneously for many clients.
Exams & DataFlow
Exam & Verification FAQs
DataFlow is a primary source verification service that verifies your qualifications directly with the issuing institutions (universities, councils, hospitals). It is mandatory for all UAE health authority licensing (DHA, DOH, MOH) and is required or equivalent in most other GCC countries. We manage the full process. See our DataFlow service.
DataFlow typically takes 4β12 weeks depending on origin country and institutions involved. Nurses and allied health professionals often experience longer timelines due to council response speeds. We follow up proactively with all institutions weekly to prevent avoidable delays.
No. Each authority sets its own exam. The DHA exam, DOH exam, MOH Prometric, and SCFHS Saudi Prometric are all different β different content, structure, question numbers, and pass marks. Preparing for the wrong exam is a common mistake. We provide authority-specific preparation.
Yes. All GCC licensing exams are delivered at Prometric testing centres globally. You can sit the exam from your home country while your DataFlow is being processed β which is exactly what we recommend to avoid adding exam waiting time to your overall timeline.
DataFlow rejections or delays usually occur due to verification issues with specific documents β not the applicant’s qualifications. We identify the exact issue, provide guidance on resolution, and resubmit. Our proactive document audit before DataFlow initiation significantly reduces rejection risk.
A Good Standing Certificate (or Good Standing Letter) is issued by your home country’s medical, nursing, pharmacy, or dental council confirming your registration is current with no disciplinary proceedings. It is required by all GCC health authorities and must remain valid (within 3β6 months) at the time of application submission.

Timeline & Cost FAQs
From initial consultation to license issuance, the process typically takes 3β8 months depending on the country, profession, and document readiness. UAE DHA averages 4β6 months. UAE MOH averages 3β5 months. Saudi Arabia SCFHS typically 5β8 months. Running DataFlow and exam preparation simultaneously β rather than sequentially β cuts the timeline by 6β10 weeks.
Total costs vary by country and profession. For UAE DHA (doctor): AED 6,000β12,000 covering DataFlow (USD 200), exam fee (USD 300), attestation (AED 600β1,000), licensing fee (AED 1,000β5,000), and our service fee. We provide a full itemised cost breakdown during your free assessment β no surprises.
Yes. Our clients consistently achieve faster approvals because we submit correct, complete applications the first time β eliminating the back-and-forth that delays most self-managed applications by weeks or months. We also run DataFlow and exam prep in parallel by default, saving significant time.
We require a service deposit to begin work, with the balance due at agreed milestones. All fees are agreed and documented upfront β no surprises or hidden charges. Our free assessment is always fully free before any commitment.
Rejections are rare with our process because of our pre-submission audit. If a rejection does occur, we manage the appeal process at no additional cost to you. Our pre-submission review catches the vast majority of issues before they reach the authority.
All GCC licenses require periodic renewal β typically annual for most UAE authorities and biennial for some others. Some require CME credits, updated documents, or competency evidence. We track your renewal date from the day your license is issued and manage the renewal process proactively.

Profession-Specific FAQs
It depends on the country and authority. UAE MOH accepts fresh graduates with internship completion for most professions β making it the best entry route for newly qualified healthcare professionals. DHA and DOH require 1β2 years experience. We assess your specific eligibility in the free consultation. See our MOH guide.
Each GCC country has its own specialty classification list that may not directly match your home country system. Misclassification of your specialty at the application stage causes immediate rejection. We perform a specialty mapping check as part of every free eligibility assessment before any fees are committed.
Yes. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required for all nursing registrations in UAE. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is required for critical care, ER, and ICU nursing roles. Certificates must be current (within 2 years) from a recognised provider such as AHA or Red Cross. See our full nurses guide.
Yes. Clinical pharmacy is recognized as a distinct specialty in UAE and Saudi Arabia, with different exam requirements and significantly higher earning potential. Applying under the wrong pharmacy category is one of the most common pharmacist application rejections. We confirm your correct classification in the free assessment. See our pharmacists guide.
